Netwalking in Norfolk

Since I arrived in Norfolk three months ago I’ve been taking every networking opportunity that has come along. Networking is usually entertaining in one way or another, but last night was easily the most enjoyable I’ve attended. I joined the Norfolk Networking group as they walked around Hickling Broad, starting at the Nature Reserve there. The only downside was hungry mosquitoes and the (understandable) ban on dogs inside the Nature reserve, so my dogs had to stay at home. But I believe this is unusual and most Norfolk Netwalks are happy to have canine company.

It was a lovely hour’s stroll through the reedbeds, on a beautiful evening. I didn’t see any of the rare swallowtail butterflies, I was probably too busy chattering. There were about forty netwalkers in all, covering the usual wide range of skills, from gardening to IT. I think I may have found someone to help me with some IT issues I need to resolve before a major upgrade to yours2share.

As usual, when I explained what yours2share is, there was a pleasingly positive response. The debate ranged from sharing second homes, Monday to Friday lettings, sharing swimming pools, and car sharing to a conversation about sharing major items of business equipment, a category that I intend to develop in the future. Several people I had met before told me about conversations they had had with friends and colleagues about the possibilities that yours2share created.

A short drive took 25 of us back to the Greyhound pub in Hickling for a meal. We had all ordered our food before the walk, but they did well to serve us all simultaneously. This is a charming pub, with an unusually well stocked and pretty cottage garden at the back. I shall be going back.

The next walk on the second Tuesday of July: I’ll be there.
