Wants to share Property - fractional rent - outside UKIf you are considering buying a second home in Tuscany but having difficulty justifying the cost and find the time to look after it, here is another option. Rent an apartment in a beautiful Tuscan castle for several different weeks a year as a second home. This could be a week every other month plus three weeks in the summer, a fortnight four times a year, a week a month, whatever suits you.
Montegufoni Castle dates back to the 1100s and was restored in the 17th century by the noble family of Acciaioli, with a magnificent tower built on the model of the one of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. Located in the heart of the Chianti region, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, the castle and some outbuildings are divided into 30+ apartments.
One apartment sleeping five is available for fractional rental. The apartment has a mezzanine ground floor: living-room with dining area and sofa-bed, small kitchen, 2 double bedrooms each with ensuite bathroom with shower. There is a furnished outdoor area. Please ask us about our others if you need somewhere smaller or larger.
What is unique about the Castle is its fascinating history: from 1910 until the 1970s it was owned by the Sitwell family (the famous English literary figures of the early 20th century, contemporaries/ rivals of Virginia Woolf and her group). Sir Osbert Sitwell actually died there in 1969. There are records of visits there by Princess Margaret and other society types involved with the arts.
At guests’ disposal is a large and very charming terraced park furnished with garden furniture and table tennis, beautiful Italian gardens (dating back to the 18th century) with lemon trees and swimming-pool (12 x 6 m - open from 01/04 to 31/10). There is internet access and bikes may be hired.
The castle is run by the Posarelli family. A restaurant offering tasty recipes of the local Chianti tradition is open every night (from April to October except on Wednesdays).
Distances: Florence 20 km, Pisa approx. 70 km. The Castle is easily accessible from both Florence and Pisa airports. Close by there are 2 villages with shops/ restaurants, Montagnana and Baccaiano, each about 1 km away (walkable). The small town of Montespertoli is approx. 5km away.
Extra services are available on request include renting a baby bed (€ 52,- / per week) and an extra bed (€ 77,- / per week) both payable locally. Maid service available by arrangement (€ 12,- / per hour – payment on the spot).
The discount structure for multiple weeks is as follows:
1st 2 weeks: Full price
3rd week: 20% discount for the third week
4th week: 30% discount for the fourth week
From the 5th week on: 40% discount for the fifth and any subsequent weeks.
Full price weekly rates vary from 617 euros in the low season to 933 euros in the peak season.
No discount is available for weeks in July and August.
